More drying time

This is where I am now with my doll. Still a little more sculpting and sanding to do and then I come to the fun part painting!

Drying time

I have been working on the body and it is drying time again. My hands want to get on with the sanding but I have to wait patiently. In the meantime I finished the head but dropped it once and flattened the nose a bit but thank goodness not too much that I could not remedy it.

Wrong proportion

At last I almost finished sculpting the head of the doll but found that the proportion of the head turned out a bit bigger than I thought. So now I have to change the body a bit. Don't know if I will succeed but I will try. If it is all not in proportion then I will just think it is a whimsical doll so anything goes and be content with that and put it down to learning curve. I wish I had sculpted the head first and then the body. I forgot that the head gets a bit bigger because we have to add all that clay to sculpt. Anyway here is a partly finished head. Still got some work to do on it. I watched a video on sculpting by a Ukrainian doll artist called Annadan and you can see her work here http://annadan-doll.blogspot.com/  They are beautiful.  I followed her method even though she was talking in Russian and I could not understand what she was saying but just by looking at what she was doing I sort of did it. Her doll's are big compared to mine so I found it a challenge to do such a small face. My doll head is only about 2 inches long. Next time I know that I have to first sculpt the head and then the body ๐Ÿ˜€

Waiting is not fun

The most frustrating part about paper clay is that one has to wait for it to dry then sand and add more clay then wait again. You may have to do this again and again until you get the desired shape. I am back to creating my paper clay doll and yes it is slowly coming together but it's taking time and I am so impatient with sanding and drying๐Ÿ˜€. In the meantime another lady is knocking at the door to come out๐Ÿ˜€.

Some bargains

I got these velvet ribbons and some cording in the sale. I didn't have these colours and the size is also perfect size for dolls so I am pleased with my buy. The fabric I got more than a metre as that was the last bit on the roll and they just gave it all for the half metre price since I had wanted only half metre.

I know what I am going to use those green ribbons for. I have an idea let's hope it will work. The magenta cording I bought for hopefully the future doll from the recent sketch.๐Ÿ˜€

First things first

I have to apologise for not visiting blogs lately. After Christmas and New Year things have got very hectic. Just when I thought things were settling down I had bad news yesterday that mum was admitted in hospital. She had a heart attack. It was a mild attack but because of her age we were very concerned. At one point I thought of taking the next flight to India but my brother asked me not to rush it but to wait for few more hours. Finally late last night they said that she was responding to treatment and was stable. This morning I got to speak to her and she sounds ok but weak. Many prayers have been going out for her and I am so grateful for them.

The other day while having a cup of tea I was staring at the Christmas tree so my husband asked me what I was staring at. I said to him I think I see a doll at that spot and pointed the spot to him. He looked then looked at me as though I had gone a bit crazy and said I don't see anything. He said he could only see a couple of ornaments so I said that's it both together look like a doll. He said that I had a weird imagination as he still could not see a doll๐Ÿ˜€. So I quickly drew this on a sheet of paper and asked him if he now saw it? So he looked at the drawing and the ornaments and said oh yes now I see a figure๐Ÿ˜€. Then he said I still had a weird imagination ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
So here is the very rough sketch that I drew. Maybe I will make a doll out of it after all.
